The author takes into consideration the coinage of Persis, an autonomous region in southern Iran during the Seleucid rule, later a vassal kingdom under the Arsacids. In particular, the first group of issues, those mint by of the so-called frataraka, local dignitaries who had not yet adopted the title of kings, is analysed.
